Here's a pic that gurensan just sent me of his DP bucket. he's having some problems fitting into it because he wears glasses. He stated that it may be narrower han other dp's but from looking at it, it seems right to my eye. the only thing i can suggest is the obvious paint and lens. lets try to help him make this bad boy work for him....any ideas? (please chime in gurensan if i'm missing anything)

The visor hole's been cut out & it's been cleaned up some. It needs some resizing. A friend of mine resized his some with a steam bath (!) and it seemed to work. He's bigger than I am so he really needed it. I don't have a cooking pot big enough so I was thinking of recasting.
I'm thinking that the best bet would be to finish it the way it is and go from there. At least I'd have better looking pictures!
I found the Krylon Banner Red. I hope 2 cans is enough.

Dude! i would see if your friend could re-shape yours like he did his. beats all the work of re-casting it. just an idea.... as far as the paint, i used about a can and a half on mine. but i also primed it first and sanded lightly between coats with a fine sanding pad. there is a clear coat called "deft" that i use for alot of stuff. its a multi-purpose gloss clear that works on just about anything and dries super fast and even. it goes on better than anything i've ever seen. i use it over auto paints alot. you can find it at WAL-MART with the wood stains and laquers. be sure to test it on something first so it does'nt react with the krylon paint

"Deft"? Never heard of it. I'll take a look. We have a supercenter 3 miles away...
I also bought some of the Krylon clearcoat. The triple-thick stuff goes on gummy and takes a long time to dry. When it does, though, it leaves a pretty shiny & tough surface. I'll try it out and let everyone know when I get time.

We used a heat gun on mine to get some of the warping out. It was originally my husband's and he got it to fit his large melon that way as well. If I am careful and puyt it on sideways I can get it on over my glasses.
We have had good luck with the fusion paint by krylon, is that what you are talking about?

Yup. It says on the can that it's supposed to flex some. That would account for the gumminess & slow dry time I'll look into the hair dryer thing. You all might be on to something!

If you have a propane heater, that will work well too. It disperses the heat over a greater area, which prevents hot spots on the vinyl. If you need more room inside, heat it up, and press on the left and right side and hold it for a while. Try it on, if it still a tad tight, heat it up and stick a volleyball in it and let it sit overnight. It shoudl keep the bigger shape after that. When storing the bucket, it doesn't hurt to leave the volleyball inside.

I've heard of the volleyball trick, but not in conjunction with something like a space heater. When I get time I'll give it a whirl.

Not a space heater, but more of a camping type propane heater that attached to a propane tank. We had one out at our last prop party and it worked great to stretch out the bucket. The volleyball I used has marks on it from the front fins of the mask from when I put it in rather deep. Now I just put it on the opening and push it down so that it gives a little bit of a stretch for maintenance.

I'm in FL, so I suppose if I wait a few months I can use a magnifying glass

Actually, that's not too far off from what I did... I left it out in my car in the summer heat. Took it out every few hours and just pushed out from the inside. Only needed about 3 tries and it fit like a glove (untill I crushed it a year later, and had to use a heatgun to reshape it.)

I thought about that but decided against it. It's a little hard to go out and check on it when I'm stuck on the phone all day.
